Everything You Should Know About Entering Grade 8
Everything You Should Know About Entering Grade 8
From the first day I entered my new Grade 8 classroom at First Avenue, I noticed that it was going to be a big change from Grade 7 and everything else I ever knew!
If I had to speak to the Grade 7 class about entering into Grade 8 next year, this is what I might tell them:
When I first came to First Avenue Public School I noticed that my classroom alone had half the amount of people as my entire old school had in its entire population. I now was faced with having an entire class of 25 to get to know which was much different than having only 10 people in the entire junior division.
Even the students in my classroom looked different! They wore a variety of brand name clothing, they looked older, had more make-up on, and spent a lot of time styling their hair in the morning. I didn't know if I was ready for all of this.
The school work I have in Grade 8 is at a higher level than what I am used to. We are really working at a Grade 8 level here at First Avenue Public School. It is much more challenging to get a good Grade when the work is at such a higher level.
In Grade 8, you should know that you are given more opportunities to learn outside of the classroom. Already, in just two and a half months, we have been on three field trips. We have been bowling twice and we also went to a corn maze. We even have a trip planned for this month to go to the Grand Theatre.
The instruction in Grade 8 is more focused around working in groups. We do a lot of interactive learning. My teacher demonstrates how to do a task and then lets us work together to reach our goals. She is more of a mentor and friend rather than a boss.
Since Grade 8's are the oldest in the school, they are thought to be more mature which gives us more freedom around the school. The Grade 8's are trusted more and are given more responsibility around the school. We are given the job of organizing dances, planning graduation, setting up food trays, and be lunch monitors for the younger grades.
